TK With Mrs. K
Hi TK Families! Thank you so much for your partnership and support. I appreciate your trust and for sharing your little learner with me. I am a kind, caring, considerate, and fair teacher. I want to inspire our students to embrace their creativity, develop into innovators, and explore their natural curiosity. I also strive to provide a healthy classroom- learning environment that promotes responsibility, independence, inquiry, collaboration, and high self- esteem.
I hope to help your child develop a love of learning by using various play based activities. In the classroom, students have access to a maker space, science corner, writing center, sensory bin, book nook, calm down area, dramatic play, home living play space, and art center. We will explore and practice social thinking, emotions, self-regulation, problem solving, executive function skills, and kindness. Our students will also engage in songs and hands-on activities to help them learn the foundations of literacy and math. Our students are additionally provided with enrichment classes sponsored by LPIE and the PFC. These classes include music, science, and physical education. We have a district provided art teacher who facilitates a whole class art lesson/activity once a month as well.

Play Workshop Our TK program is play based! Young students essentially learn and do their "work" through play. When given opportunities to engage in purposeful play, children develop skills in self-determination and awareness of diversity in self and others. They also learn to communicate their ideas and often negotiate and solve problems collaboratively with their peers. They use their imaginations as well to innovate and create. In our classroom, students choose from various activities including building, water play, free choice art, pretend play in the home living center, and use thematic toys/manipulatives. We additionally have a dramatic play area in our classroom that changes monthly.
Learning Stations Our students learn through play! During Learning Stations, students have the opportunity to choose different literacy, math, and fine motor activities. Some of the activities include playdough, puzzles, sensory bin, making/exploring letters, and counting with various manipulatives. I change out the activities every other week so that the students get lots of time to practice and play with them. During this time, I also work with small groups of students and facilitate a multi-sensory activity that builds upon their fine motor, literacy, or math development.
Bathroom Support: I cannot enter the bathroom but I can "coach" our TK students through the door if need be. Students need to try to wipe themselves as best they can. To err on the side of caution, give your kiddo a quick soak in the bathtub each night. Finally, it is important for parents to know that students need to be able to change themselves if there is an accident. I will get the emergency clothes from their backpacks and get them set up in the bathroom, but they need to change and bag the soiled clothes.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for your support at home! Looking forward to a great year! :) -Brittney Kornow (Mrs. K) [email protected]
