First grade is a year of remarkable growth as students become increasingly confident readers, writers, mathematicians, and problem-solvers. Learning experiences encourage curiosity while helping students develop independence and perseverance.

Students focus on:

• Developing reading fluency, comprehension, and foundational phonics skills
• Writing complete sentences, personal narratives, informational pieces, and opinion writing
• Building mathematical understanding through addition, subtraction, place value, measurement, and problem-solving
• Investigating scientific concepts through hands-on exploration
• Strengthening communication, collaboration, and critical thinking
• Developing responsibility, organization, and positive learning habits

By the end of first grade, students are becoming independent learners who enjoy tackling new challenges.
