Preparing for the Next Chapter

Fifth grade prepares students for a successful transition to middle school by fostering independence, leadership, and academic excellence. Students are challenged to think critically, collaborate effectively, and apply their learning to authentic, real-world situations.

Students focus on:

  • Reading complex literary and informational texts while analyzing themes, perspectives, and evidence
  • Writing well-developed narratives, informational essays, and argumentative pieces supported by research
  • Applying advanced mathematical concepts including fractions, decimals, volume, coordinate graphing, and multi-step problem-solving
  • Investigating physical, life, and Earth sciences through inquiry and engineering design
  • Developing leadership, organization, study skills, and personal responsibility
  • Strengthening communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking

Throughout the year, students take on leadership opportunities that prepare them to become confident, responsible, and compassionate middle school students. By the end of the year, they have developed the academic skills, character, and confidence needed for continued success while living our school motto, "Do Your Part: Every Action Counts!"
