The Springhill Science Lab is up in room 19 (the classroom closest to our garden). Students experience hands-on science in a dedicated lab and use science notebooks to integrate the lab experiences and science literacy.
The science curriculum continues to evolve to adopt of the Next Generation Science Standards. Check out the NGSS here.

The Springhill garden is a special place to work and learn. Students will be up there in science lab (and sometimes in their general ed classroom) throughout the year.
Welcome to the Springhill science lab. This is a place for all students to learn and make mistakes and discover their many talents.
I am Miss B (aka Cathy Bornfleth). I've been a teacher at Springhill since 2001. In my 20 plus years at Springhill I've been a classroom teacher in K, 4th and 5th grades before joining the district's science team.
Springhill science is supported by LPIE. LPIE instructors teach NGSS enrichment lessons for each grade level and LPIE provides our lab with materials and aide support. They also fund the science teacher position across the four elementary schools. Thank you LPIE!

All students will be using Interactive Science Notebook this year to integrate science and Common Core State Standards. Research shows that writing, reading and talking about science is essential to increase and deepen conceptual understanding by:
- Using writing to construct and process science concepts
- Modeling what real scientists do
- Recording observations, ideas, questions and thinking
- Recording information, interpreting results, reflecting on learning, and showing evidence of understanding
- Reading and writing with science language and non-fiction conventions
- Using writing and creativity to support inquiry-based learning and Common Core State Standards
- Preparing students with skills to function and make decisions in the 21st century.
